Roots Circle members gathered together this summer to spend time learning from our Elder, Auntie Rosie.
Auntie Rosie began by leading us in an opening circle to start our day. One by one, each member introduced themselves in a relational way.
After our opening circle, we picked out pieces of felt and coloured beads, and Auntie Rosie taught us the beading stitch to close up our hearts. As we beaded together, Auntie Rosie told us about the sage we would put inside our heart-shaped pouches, sharing healing aspects and origins of the medicine.
There was a great sense of community being built during our time together that felt stronger the more time we spent beading together. Folks helped each other thread needles and fix stitches, encouraging each other along the way and sharing our different designs and colour choices with our nieghbours.
We placed Auntie Rosie’s sage in the center before stitching up the hearts and completing the project.
